Pain In The Soul

Psalms 119:71: It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

What is worse, pain in your body or pain in your soul? I have had pain from several physical maladies. The pain in my soul for several months before I received Jesus was unbearable. It was a more important pain. There was no end to it. It was incurable except by receiving Jesus and surrendering to Him. The pain in my soul when God reproves me of sin is also miserable. Whether the pain in your soul is because you are lost or because you are saved but have fallen into sin, relief is just a prayer away.

For the unsaved person:

Romans 10:13: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

For the saved person:

1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Pains in our bodies and in our souls are warning systems the Lord has built into us. They tell us something is wrong. Physical pain alerts us to a need for physical solutions, often provided by a doctor. Pain in our soul alerts us to our need for the help of The Great Physician, the Spiritual Physician. We should be more concerned about the pain in our souls than about the pain in our bodies.

Psalms 103:12: As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

Who but God could do THAT? The older we get the more we seem to talk about our physical ailments and surgeries. We actually boast about them. Believers should be able to boast about the operation of God on them and in their lives more than their physical ailments. Too often we are ignorant of His work. If you are not aware of His work on you and in your life, I feel sorry for you. If you are not permitting His work upon you and asking Him to work on you, you are in poor spiritual condition.

Philippians 2:13: For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

D. L. Moody:

There is no joy for man in rebellion against his Creator.

Psalms 28:5: Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up.

Isaiah 5:12: And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.

Colossians 2:12: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

Colossians 2:11: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
